"We'll All Sing Hallelujah":
Sacred Sounds of Alabama Exhibit
The Singing Square allows visitors and students to experience a shape-note singing event by serving as the leader of the square and selecting a song or by sitting in the traditional "hollow square" where they can sing along while watching the songs through video monitors. The singing square includes panels that present our shape-note singing heritage with information on the history, current activities, schools, elements, dedicated families, and heritage honorees. The rest of the exhibit consists of partition walls holding interpretive panels on other genres. Included are sacred music traditions associated with Alabama's African American heritage such as spirituals, choral music, freedom songs, and black gospel quartets. Other traditions include bluegrass gospel and country gospel.
Fee for hosting the exhibit for
4-16 weeks will be $2500.00
